ELI: Listening & Speaking Essentials

ClassGraphic Intensive in-and-out-of-class listening and speaking practice. Students will listen to materials from various sources and in different contexts. Students will work on understanding the meaning and purpose of the speaker as well as how to communicate ideas clearly. Presentations, discussions, and group projects will be required. Attend academic lectures; prepare reviews from notes taken during the lecture. Melody, rhythm, word and phrase stress will be covered. Students will imporve their ability to both perceive and produce individual sounds and how they are combined in words or longer phrases. Students will also learn about patterns that can make it difficult for them to understand native speakers.
