Camera Lab

Modern digital cameras are amazingly complex pieces of machinery that require you to navigate a dazzling array of menu options, multi-function buttons and switches to operate, and the manufacturer's user manuals can be frustrating to use. This class will teach you the essential settings for your specific camera, train you to use those settings, and prepare you for Digital Photography I. Bring your camera, user manual, and a selection of lenses if available.  Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Class will break one hour for lunch.

There comes a time in your development as a photographer when all of your images seem pretty good, but you need the guidance of a more experienced photographer to take your work to the next level. Bring your images and have them critiqued by a PPA Judge and Master Photographer. You will gain insights into exposure, composition, lighting, posing and emotional impact as the instructor critiques your work and that of your classmates. Class will break one hour for lunch. When you have learned your equipment and key techniques, you still need the experience necessary to recognize and create good photos. Our master photographer will show lots of photos to illustrate various strategies for good compositions and then discuss reasons to break the rules. After a week of using what you learn, you will return to the classroom to have your photos shared with the class and critiqued by the instructor. Class will break one hour for lunch on Saturday. Digital flash photography can be frustrating even for experienced photographers. Learn strategies for getting more consistent exposures and techniques for using your flash on- and off-camera as a main, fill, and bounce light source.Students will get the maximum benefit from this class if they own and bring a hot-shoe flash. If you want to go beyond casual picture taking and seriously pursue the art of photography, this class is for you. The instructor's photographs have been widely exhibited and are included in museum collections. In this four week class, you will participate in discussions and complete assignments in four important areas: light, subject, perspective, and presentation.
